Everyone who runs a book site loves books. That’s not what makes this one different.
I started Pages & Prose because I kept finishing books everyone promised were unforgettable — and they weren’t. Five-star ratings, viral recommendations, endless hype: too often they told me what was popular, not what was worth my time. I wanted a place where a book got judged on what it actually gave a reader, not on how loudly people were talking about it.
That’s still the problem we’re solving for. Most review sites will tell you the book everyone’s discussing is worth reading, because that’s the safest opinion to hold. Here, we’d rather tell you a beloved bestseller didn’t work for us, or that an overlooked novel deserved ten times the attention it got. Not because contrarianism is the point — because honest criticism is worth more than easy agreement. A review that never disagrees with anything isn’t really a review.

Our Editorial Voices
Pages & Prose is founded and edited by Zakaria, with distinct editorial voices built around different genres and reading perspectives. These voices help give our reviews a recognizable point of view without pretending that every book should be judged in exactly the same way.
The voices have defined specialties, tones, and questions they bring to a book. Their purpose is editorial: to make each genre review more focused, useful, and consistent with the kind of reader the book is trying to reach.
Delia Marchetti
Mystery & Thriller Voice
Focuses on unreliable narrators, slow-building dread, pacing, clues, suspense, and whether a twist genuinely earns its impact.
Amara Reyes
Romance Voice
Focuses on chemistry, emotional stakes, character development, pacing, and whether a romance earns its happy ending.
Eleanor Marsh
Literary Fiction Voice
Focuses on characterization, subtext, purposeful prose, structure, emotional depth, and whether literary ambition has substance behind it.
Renata Souza
Nonfiction Voice
Focuses on voice, honesty, insight, ideas, storytelling, and what a nonfiction book ultimately helps the reader understand.
Wren Ashby
Fantasy & Science Fiction Voice
Focuses on worldbuilding, magic and scientific systems, internal consistency, plot logic, and whether speculative ideas hold together.

Book Deep Dive Voice
Focuses on selected books as complete reading subjects, connecting reviews with summaries, themes, characters, key ideas, explanations, and related reading.
Zakaria — Founder & Editor
Zakaria leads Pages & Prose and primarily covers book news, new releases, publishing developments, author news, quotes, literary trends, and editorial updates. He may contribute reviews when appropriate, but he is not presented as the default reviewer for every book.
How our reviews work
Pages & Prose reviews share a common editorial foundation, while the perspective can change according to the genre and the voice assigned to the piece. A mystery may be examined through suspense and fair clues; a romance through chemistry and emotional payoff; a literary novel through prose and subtext; a nonfiction book through voice and insight; and a fantasy or science fiction story through worldbuilding and internal consistency.
The goal is not to manufacture different opinions. It is to ask the questions that matter most for the book and its intended readers, then explain what worked and what didn’t.
When a page needs updating because a new edition, adaptation, or other development changes what readers need to know, we update it rather than letting useful information go stale.
How we use AI
Pages & Prose uses AI-assisted tools where they can improve research, organization, brainstorming, and editorial workflows. AI does not replace editorial judgment or determine our ratings and recommendations.
Published content remains subject to the Pages & Prose editorial process. The purpose of using AI is to help the publication work more efficiently while keeping editorial decisions, transparency, and the reader’s experience at the center.
Our theme
Pages & Prose exists for readers who want more than a rating. The job is simple: help you make a better reading decision through honest, independent criticism and useful book discovery. Every review, list, guide, news story, and deep dive gets built around one question:
“Will this help someone choose a book that’s worth their time?”
